Pneumatic Belt Conveyor System Design: Key Features and Applications in India

A pneumatic conveying system operates similarly to a belt or chain conveyor when it comes to material handling, but with the key advantage that it transports materials within a closed-loop system. This closed-loop design helps prevent contamination of both the material and the surrounding environment. The system’s design is influenced by several parameters, including air velocity, pressure, particle size and shape, and the conveying distance. This article provides insights into the research conducted over the past decade on pneumatic conveying systems, considering these factors.

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to designing a pneumatic conveying system. The design parameters vary depending on the system’s configuration and the specific application. As a result, different applications require tailored design solutions. In the field of pneumatic conveying systems, there is ample room for experimentation and innovation.

In this project, the material handling mechanism will be powered by a reciprocating double-acting pneumatic cylinder. The cylinder’s movement is controlled by a solenoid-operated 5/2-way DC valve, activated by an ON/OFF relay control system. The reciprocating motion of the piston rod is converted into rotational motion through a chain and sprocket mechanism, driving the movement of the belt conveyor.

The system will be constructed in such a way that the pneumatic cylinder initiates the reciprocation, causing a power plate with holes to move along the sprocket. As the power plate moves, the sprocket rotates in a unidirectional motion, generating the required power to drive the belt conveyor. Consequently, this process will set the conveyor into motion.
